Frequently Wondered

The questions that arrive in our inbox most often, answered as plainly as we can.

How do you decide a technology is "emerging"?

It must be usable by an ordinary early adopter today, not just announced, and it must change what someone can do rather than only how fast they do it. Press releases and waitlists do not count.

Are any featured sites or tools paying you?

No. Lookoutrakivaro accepts no payment, affiliate commissions or free products in exchange for coverage. See our mission for the full policy.

Is it safe to paste private information into AI tools?

Only if the provider's data policy allows it for your situation. For confidential material, a model running locally through tools such as Ollama or LM Studio keeps data on your device. Our local models tab has starting points.

What does "Baseline" mean for web features?

Baseline labels a feature "newly available" once it works in all core browsers, and "widely available" about thirty months later. Our standards table uses the same vocabulary.

Do I need a VR headset to explore spatial interfaces?

No. Many WebXR experiences offer a fallback view in a normal browser, and AR features work on many recent phones. A headset helps, but curiosity is enough to start.

Why do some sites you featured disappear?

Independent projects end; that is part of the web's charm. When it happens we update our note and link to an archived copy on the Wayback Machine where possible.

How often is the content updated?

We review each dispatch periodically and show the last update date at the top of every topic page.

Can I suggest a website or tool?

Yes. Use the field-note tool to prepare a suggestion and email it to [email protected].

Do you offer technical support for the products you cover?

No. We are an independent publication; please contact each product's own support team for help.
