What we collect
Emails you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address, name and whatever you choose to include. We use this only to read and respond to your message and to credit you if we feature your suggestion.
The field-note tool. The contact tool on our Write page runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted to us unless you choose to email it.
Server logs. Our hosting provider may record standard technical data such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, for security and reliability. These logs are kept for a limited period, normally no longer than 30 days.
Legal bases
We process correspondence on the basis of our legitimate interest in running an editorial publication and responding to readers, and server logs on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure.
Retention
We keep correspondence for up to 24 months, then delete it unless it relates to published material or an ongoing matter.
Sharing
We do not sell personal data. We share it only with service providers who host our website or email, under contracts requiring appropriate protection, or where required by law.
Your rights
